Golden eagles and great horned owls are larger and both will attack peregrine falcons when given the chance. In the 1960s and 1970s, peregrine falcons\u2019 numbers were dwindling and at first, no one knew why. It wasn\u2019t because of their predators, golden eagles and great horned owls. It was because what they were eating\u2014smaller birds\u2014were eating insects that had been poisoned by the insecticide DDT.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing that endangered their species came from somewhere they could not have seen coming.
