The joy of not knowing

There are two unknowns in poker: what cards your opponents have, and what cards the deck will provide as the hand progresses. If you knew both of those things, poker would be no fun at all. If you knew just one of those things, it would be a lot less fun too. The joy of succeeding in poker is not the joy of knowing or the joy of being lucky. The joy of poker is succeeding while not knowing everything. Taking calculated risks based on what you do know for certain.

The next time a problem seems like a pain in your side, consider how the world would feel if everything were perfectly predictable. I think it would feel like staring at an hourglass watching each grain fall. Embrace your problems and dance with them. It’s what makes life life.
